7. William R. BISHOP
was born on Sep 2, 1813 in Georgia. He purchased land on Jan 18,
1851 in Claiborne Parish, LA51
On January 16, 1851, John Cook of Claiborne Parish, LA, sold to William Bishop
of Union Co., AR the NW/4 of SW/4 of S26, T21, R7W, containing 40 acres. The
sale was for $300 including $100 cash, $75 due on Jan 1, 1852, and $125 plus
8% interest due on Jan. 1, 1853. Witnesses to the transaction were James Kilburn
and James A. Millican. Sworn to by James A. Millican on Jan. 18, 1851, and signed
by John Cook and W.R. Bishop.
James and William were brothers in law. Kilburn might be Hilburn. This information
found in Claiborne Parish LA Conveyance Records, Volume A (1850-1853), p156.
The Bishop family bible was bequeathed to William R. Bishop upon the death of
his father, William Bucner Bishop. William R. recorded the following information:
"William B. Bishop died at the home of Joseph M. Bishop his grandson on
the 22 of July 1852 at the age of 84 years. The William Bucner Bishop book was
placed in (our) William R. and Octava Biships trusted care on this 20 November
1856. Our son Robert Alfred Bishop was born July 8, 1842 and died June 30 1845." William
R. BISHOP and Octavia CATO were married on Jan 23, 1841 in Union Co., AR.16,52,53 They appeared in the census on
Nov 11, 1850 in Union Co., AR.54
Octavia CATO was born on Jan 15, 1822 in Louisiana.1 She appeared in the census on Jun
4, 1870 in Claiborne Parish, LA.42
