6. Benjamin Franklin
BRALEY19 was born
on Mar 3, 1858 in Springhill, Webster Parish, LA. He purchased land
on Jun 1, 1898 in Webster Parish, LA when he entered an original
homestead entry for 79.98 acres in the south one-half of the northeast in township
23 north, range 11 west, section 22.
He died on Jan 19, 1923 in Webster Parish, LA. He was buried in
Jan 1923 in Timothy Church Cemetery, Springhill, Webster Parish, LA.20
On June 10, 1898, Benjamin F. Braley patented the north east quarter of section
22 in township 23 north of range 11 west of Louisiana meridian in Louisiana,
containing 79 acres and 98/100 of an acre.
Deed records found at Minden, Webster Parish, LA courthouse: Ben F. Braley bought
80 acres at $1.25 per acre Located in S2 of NE 4 of S22, TS23, R11W on Oct. 18,
1890.
Ben's death caused an Interdiction to be filed to replace him as under-tutor
for Gladys Braley. Petitioners were Mrs. A.L. Coffee, J.J. Braley, J.F. Braley,
W.P. Braley and A.C. McDonald.

A Patent record, No. 4695, was found in Natchitoches Parish. It was dated June
10, 1898 and is in Vol. 85, p. 368.
In 1910 and 1912 Ben was Messenger for Timothy Baptist Church.
Ben was selected as one of the voting commissioners at Timothy School for a Webster
parish-wide tax election in 1919. Other commissioners were J. T. Edwards, Phillip
Frazier, and R. W. Wallace.
A B. Braley was listed in the April, 1882 minutes of the Spring Branch Church
at Columbia Co., Arkansas.
On April 13, 1917, a committee was formed to combat probably food shortages due
to the advent of WW1. One committee agreed to have farmers sign pledges to plant
less cotton and more food stuff. Ben F. Braley was apointed, among others, to
oversee the process.
Benjamin Franklin BRALEY and Gerold Lena OAKLEY were married on Jun 30, 1887
in Webster Parish, LA. They appeared in the census on Jun 21, 1900
in Webster Parish, LA.21

Lena OAKLEY (daughter of George W. OAKLEY and M. E. __________) was born
on Dec 14, 1870 in Springhill, Webster Parish, LA. She appeared in
the census on Apr 19, 1930 in Webster Parish, LA, as a widowed head of household.24 She died on Jan 19, 1937 in Louisiana.
She was buried in Jan 1937 in Timothy Church Cemetery, Springhill, Webster
Parish, LA.25
The Oakley family came from Alabama and settled first in northeast Bossier Parish,
LA, in 1858; operating a blacksmith shop in Bellevie, then the county seat of
Bossier Parish. The men served in the Civil War, and on returning, swapped land
in the northeast for land in the northwest of what is today Webster Parish, on
Bodcau Bayou. [O'Bier]
