James Monroe BRALEY was born on Aug 19, 1849 in Springhill,
Webster Parish, LA. He appeared in the census on Jun 29, 1880 in
Webster Parish, LA, enumerated with his father and brother, William Richard.
He purchased land on Jan 7, 1893 in Webster Parish, LA James entered
an original homestead entry for 159.97 acres in the west half of the northwest,
and the west half of the south west in township 23 north, range 10 west, section
29. He died on May 10, 1915 in Kings Corner, Webster Parish, LA.
He was buried in May 1915 in Spring Branch Cemetery, Columbia Co., AR.7 James M. Braley, on January 7,
1893 patented the west half of the north west quarter, and the west half of the
south west quarter of section 29 in township 23 north of range 10 west of LA
meridian in LA, containing 159 acres and 97/100 of an acre.
There is also a deed conveyance dated 1886 from J. M. Braley to G. F. Braley
found in book 4, page 553. Jim's probate, document 296 in Webster Parish, dated
1921, names children, including an unnamed infant girl that was born June 15,
1882 and died 14 months later.
James was named to the Spring Branch Church (Columbia Co., Arkansas] church building
committee in July, 1890. Others serving with him were A. W. Taylor, C. R. Newton,
W. R. Boyett, A. A. Reeves, and Isaac Howell. In September, 1890, John McSwain
was added to the committee, and A. B. Hornsby replaced Isaac Howell in March,
1891. [O'Bier] James Monroe BRALEY and Amanda M. (Mandy) BLUNT were married
on Aug 19, 1881. They appeared in the census on Jun 13, 1900 in Webster
Parish, LA.8 They appeared
in the census on Apr 19, 1910 in Webster Parish, LA.9
Amanda M.
(Mandy) BLUNT (daughter of Hugh R. BLUNT and Beneta BISHOP) was born on Jan
8, 1859 in Texas.10 She
appeared in the census in 1870 in Bossier Parish, LA, enumerated with her parents
in Webster Parish (then Bossier Parish), LA.. She appeared in the
census on Feb 26, 1920 in Webster Parish, LA, enumerated as a widow with children.11 She appeared in the census on
Apr 15, 1930 in Webster Parish, LA, enumerated with her son, Frank James Braley.
She died on Feb 7, 1936 in Minden, Webster Parish, LA.10
Pneumonia was listed as cause of death on Amanda's La. State Board of Health,
Bureau of Vital Statistics, Certificate of Death, file no. 2018, register no.
2832. Her tombstone shows that she was born Jan. 8, 1859. But her death certificate
shows that she was 75 years, 1 month and 4 days old when she died suggesting
that she was born about Jan. 3, 1861.
She was buried on Feb 9, 1936 in Spring Branch Cemetery, Columbia Co., AR.
Amanda [Braley] was listed in the April, 1882 minutes of the Spring Branch Church
at Columbia Co., Arkansas. [O'Bier]
In a brief history of the King's Corner Assembly of God Church, O'Bier writes
about the Rev. Charlie Carraway and his Sunday School held in the Blocker School
at King's Corner. When the school burned in about 1920, Rev. Carraway held his
meetings in a tent until a tabernacle could be built. In the meantime, a Rev.
Elmer L. Tanner preached a revival in the community and many of the people in
the area attended. At this time, everybody was attending church at Old Sarepta
Baptist. One night the Baptist preacher told everyone that had been attending
the revival at King's Corner to leave his church and not to come back. "Only
