Besides O'Bier and me, L. Ernestine Collins also thought that the Irishman Hugh Coyle of Natchez and Spanish West Florida was the father of William Washington Coyle. He served in the military between Dec 25, 1814 and Mar 22, 1815 in 10th Louisiana Militia. He appeared in the census in 1830 in Yazoo Co., MS.⁴ He died on Mar 2, 1856 in Webster Parish, LA.^3,5 He was buried in Mar 1856 in Coyle Family Cemetery, Webster Parish, LA.^6,7,8

William Washington COYLE and Elizabeth Ann (Betsey) CLARK were married in 1819.⁹ L. Ernestine Coyle Collins wrote that two children in the household of William Washington Coyle, Henderson and Martha have never been identified. They were Williams children, and his daughter Martha was already married with 3 or 4 children in 1850. If Matilda Pate had been previously married, no one at the time Ernestine was researching and conducting family interviews knew about it. According to Ernesting, nothing at all is know about Matilda after 1856. Elizabeth Ann (Betsey) CLARK (daughter of Jonathan G. CLARK and Catherine GARNHART) died BET. 1833 - 1834 in Madison Co., MS.¹⁰ She was born about 1800 in Spanish West Florida, Louisiana.^11,12 William Washington COYLE and Elizabeth Ann (Betsey) CLARK had the following children:
