Ernestine Coyle Collins wrote..."this land, [where William is buried]
far as records show, never was in possession of any Coyle. The story of
William Coyle's burial here is that he was a great one for riding horseback over
the country and one day came in a said he had found the place he wanted to be
buried, had marked it with a large rock. There is no large rock there, now.
I have been unable to find exactly where Wm. Coyle lived in 1856. In
Dec. 1850 Census he, James Slack, Wm. Humphreys, Albert Tyler, Elijah C. Taylor,
John Slack, and Wm. L. Coyle were all living in Ward 6, Bossier Parish, La.
There is no record of any kind showing Wm. Coyle ever owned land of his own,
though he farmed is on record." [Italics mine - jkc]
He was buried in Apr 1926 in Coyle No. 3 Cemetery, Cotton Valley, Webster
Parish, LA.
Located on Jody Turner Place, southwest of Springhill, La.

(Nannie) ADAIR (daughter of John ADAIR and Frances R. ANDERSON) was born
in Jan 1862 in Louisiana. In her note of April 28, 1998, Knowles
writes "...Nanie and her sister (& possibly her 2 brothers as well)
were sent from the Adair home in Catahoula Par. to Arkansas to live in Aunt Georgie's
home. So Will and Nanie became acquainted & married in 1888"
William Lafayette (Will) COYLE and Nancy Lavonia (Nannie) ADAIR had the following

125 | i. | John Hixen COYLE was born in Sep 1897
in Louisiana. He died on Oct 31, 1920 in Webster Parish, LA.
He was buried in Oct 1920 in Shiloh Cemetery, Bossier Parish, LA.
This cemetery is described by Ernestine Coyle Collins as being on the Bossier
side of Bodcau Bayou Bridge. A search of the USGS features website found Shiloh
cemetery at latitude 32' 47.11" and longitude 93' 14.55". The area
found at that location doesn't seem to match her description. It is far from
Bodcau, and well to the east of Bossier City. The USGS does not find a Shiloh
cemetery in Bossier Parish. |
