was born about 1818 in Georgia.101
He appeared in the census in 1840 in Lawrence Co., MS.102 He purchased land between Sep 1, 1849 and Aug 10,
1858 in Claiborne Parish, LA103
During the periods cited, William Carlisle patented land in Claiborne parish
as follows:
1 Sep 1849: Southwest quarter of southeast quarter of section 11, township 23,
range 6, containing 80.35 acres
August 10, 1858: Northwest quarter of southeast quarter, section 7, and northeast
quarter of southwest quarter of section 8, township 22 north, range 4 west, containing
79.64 acres.
Aug 13, 1858: Southwest quarter of southeast quarter of section 7, township 22
north, range 5 west containing 39.77 acres
Aug 20, 1858: Northeast quarter of northeast quarter of west half of northeast
quarter, and southeast quarter of northwest quarter of section 7, and southwest
quarter of northwest quarter of section 8, and southwest quarter of southwest
quarter of section 9, township 22 north, range 5 west containing 198.94 acres.
He appeared in the census on Jun 15, 1880 in Angelina Co., TX.104 He died in Texas.101 William
CARLISLE and Sarah Ann BISHOP were married on Nov 6, 1839 in Lawrence Co., MS.96,97

Know all men by these presents that we William Carlisle and William Bishop both
of this state and county aforesaid are held and firmly bound unto A. G. McNutt
Esquire Governor of said state for the time being and his succesors in office
in the sum of Two hundred sollars for the ? of said state and for the true payment
thereof we bond ourselves and heirs executors and administratios jointly and
severally firmly by these presents
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this
4th day of November 1839.
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound William
Carlisle hath a promise <?> of joining himself in marriage with Sarah Bishop,
Now if there is no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then their obligation
to be void otherwise to be a remain in full force and notice <?>

They appeared in the census on Sep 9, 1850 in Claiborne Parish, LA.98 They appeared in the census on
Jul 21, 1860 in Claiborne Parish, LA.99
Research of Clata McCarver indicates that the last four children are those of
James and Hulda Prestridge Carlisle. She writes that James and Hulda died between
1857 and 1860, probably from some epidemic, and that brother William took the
children to raise
McCarver cites Claiborne Parish Probate Book C, p415, dated Feb. 28, 1860 as
follows:
To the Hon. Judge of the 1st Judicial District Court holding sessions in and
for the parish of Claiborne State of Louisiana and the Clerk thereof...
The petition of William Carlisle a resident of said parish and state with respect
shows that James M. Carlisle and Hulda Prestige his wife have both lately died
leaving the following minor children To wit: William R., Annie, John and Mary
Frances Carlisle, issue of the marriage between said James M. Carlisle &
Hulda Carlisle, that the said minors are without tutors, Def. further shows that
decd were in possession of some little property wherefore he prays that he be
appointed tutor to said minors and that John A. Carlisle be appointed under tutor
and for all other and further orders necessary on the premises and some notary
be appointed to inventory the property and for general relief.
They appeared in the census on Aug 29, 1870 in Angelina Co., TX.100 Sarah Ann BISHOP (daughter
of William Bucner BISHOP and Sarah Ann RUNNELS) was born on Jun 23, 1821 in Mississippi.
