Roger Alex Laurent, Sr.
Died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor, Baton Rouge. He was
84, born in Edgard in 1916 and was a resident of Gramercy until he relocated
with his family in 1967. While in Gramercy, he was active in the Jaycees and
was a town councilman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member
of the American Legion Post 81 for more than 50 years. Before his retirement
in 1981, he was manager of Daigle Pontiac Co. in Gonzales since 1954. He was
an active congregant of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, Gonzales, where
visitation will be held from 8 a.m. Saturday until Mass of Christian Burial at
10 a.m. Entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum, next to his beloved wife of 62 years,
Rogerie, who died Jan. 1, 2001. Survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger
A. II and Margaret Laurent of Lafayette; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and
Terry Braud, Gonzales; five grandchildren, Mark Laurent and Mireille Laurent
Mouton, both of Lafayette; and Darren, Dewayne and Jacey Braud, all of Gonzales;
three great-grandchildren, Brittany and Kristen Laurent, both of Houston, and
Alex Mouton, Lafayette; and two sisters, Therese Counts, Clearwater, Fla., and
Elodie "Sue" McPherson, McAllen, Texas. Preceded in death by his parents,
Leopold and Elodie Laurent, who were of Gramercy; four brothers, Stephen, Raleigh,
Morris and Leonce Laurent; and a sister, Martha Becnel. In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to Trinity Hospice Foundation, 5647 Superior Drive, Baton
Rouge, La 70816. Welsh Funeral Home, Gonzales, in charge of arrangements. He
was buried on Mar 10, 2001 in Hope Haven Mausoleum, Gonzales, Ascension Parish,

Laurent, Rogerie June Marie
A homemaker and a resident of Gonzales since 1967, she died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001,
at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Gonzales. She was 84 and was born in 1916 in Gramercy.
She was an alumnus of Lutcher High School and a graduate of Soulé Business
College in New Orleans. She was an active member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic
Church, Gonzales, and a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas for more
than 50 years. She was a member of Louisiana Federation of Garden Clubs, Gonzales
Chapter, since 1970. Visiting at St. Thresa of Avila Catholic Church, Gonzales,
from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday, celebrated by
The Rev. Phil Spano. Entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum. Survived by her husband
of 62 years, Roger A. Laurent, Sr. of Gonzales; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger

Perry Braud of Gonzales; five grandchildren, Mark Laurent and Mireille Laurent
