Services for Mrs. Tommie Blunt O'Bier, 81, were held at 10 a.m., Friday, November
21, 1997 at the Central Baptist Church in Springhill, LA with the Rev. Kerry
O. Burns and the Rev. Kenneth R. Everett officiating. Burial was in the Old Shongaloo
Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill.
Mrs. O'Bier, a descendant of Thomas Olen and Lula Mae Smith Blunt, a pioneer
family of this area, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 1997 in Shreveport. She
was born in Springhill and attended grades 1-5 in Springhill. Her family lived
in San Antonio, TX from 1927 to 1939 where she attended Poe Jr. High and Brackenridge
High. She graduated from the Incarnate Word College with a B.A. Degree in Chemistry.
Mrs. O'Bier retired in 1976 with 31 years service, teaching in Del Rio, TX;
San Antonio, TX; and the Webster Parish School System, teaching high school at
Cotton Valley, Shongaloo and Evergreen High; and the sixth grade at Springhill
Jr. High for many years.
Mrs. O'Bier was an active member of Central Baptist Church where she taught a
lady's Sunday School Class for many years.
She was active in civic and community activities, a volunteer aide at the Springhill
Hospital with 1000 plus hours and a member of the Dorcheat Chapter of the DAR.
Mrs. O'Bier was a historian and author publishing the book "North Webster
Parish, The Early Years."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tilon Morris O'Bier on January 11,
1981.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Louise and Parker Stevens of
Vicksburg, MS, Joy and Joe B. Webb of Shongaloo; one sister, Billie Marshall
of Krum, TX; grandchildren, Alan Stevens, Alicia Stevens Bruce and her husband
Jimmy, Sharon Stevens, Stacy Webb and Kimberly Webb; and great-grandsons, Tilon
and Alex Bruce.
Pallbearers were Henry Burns, A.J. Burns, Jr., Scott Boucher, Ty Pendergras,
Steve Slack, and Wayne "Butch" Williams, Jr. Honorary pallbearers
were Robert Mac Haynes, Dale Jones, H.B. Slack, D.C. Wilberly, Wayne Williams,
Sr., Barry Slack and Hershel Talley.
She was buried on Nov 21, 1997 in Old Shongaloo Cemetery, Shongaloo, Webster
Parish, LA. Allie Mae (Tommie) BLUNT and Tilon Morris O'BIER were
married on May 26, 1940 in Minden, Webster Parish, LA. Tilon
