In an April 11, 1990 interview at her nursing home room in Springhill, La., May
was found to be quite knowledgeable of her family history. Although extremely
sharp of mind, she was nearly blind. I did not inquire about the families of
her sisters or brothers. She told me that after her father, Joe Allen, passed
away, her mother married Mr. Porter Green and that she had a (at least one) half-brother,
Neal Green from that marriage. She also told me that Mittie Maynor, wife of Rayford
Houston, was her mother's sister. May related that after her mother married Mr.
Green her oldest sister and youngest brother went to Fred Dean's house (a Maynor
aunt had married Mr. Dean) and the other boys went to Hortman where they had
originally come from. May said that she had a pretty good home with Mr. Green
and that he was one of the best men that she ever knew. She stayed at home for
about 6 years or until she became a teenager. Her oldest brother, Joe, Jr.,
married Lilly and May lived with them for the first year of their marriage. She
met "Wild Jesse" Braley and fell in love. They married on Jan. 24,
1915 at the home of Rayford Houston. That home was located across the road from
the Dawson 'Doss' Pratt home in Webster Parish. May ALLEN and Jesse James (Wild
Jess) BRALEY were married on Jan 25, 1915 in Sarepta, Webster Parish, LA.111 Jesse and May were married
