found for this husband. Her third husband was Burton Curtis. Mr. Curtis had two
children by a previous marriage: Oice (sic) and Clyde.
The 1920 census for EBR Parish,Police Jury Ward 5, lists Jennie residing with
her widowed father, a sister, Florence, and two children, Joe, age 10 and Clifton,
age 5. The children's surname is Smith. Jennie is listed as a 26-year old widow
with the surname Hannah.

Curtis, Clarence Burton
Died at 6pm Tuesday at his home at Route 3, Denham Springs at the age of 75.
Was a native and life-long resident of Livingston Parish. The body will be
at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs until 4pm Wednesday with religious services
at the Amite Baptist Church of Denham Springs at 4:30pm Wednesday with the Rev.
Harry Wilson and the Rev. J. W. Trimble officiating. Survived by his widow,
Mrs. Jennie Smith Curtis; two sons, R. O. Curtis of Denham Springs and Clyde
Curtis of St. Francisville; two step-sons, Joseph Smith, Baton Rouge, and Clifton
E. Smith, Walker; one daughter, Mrs. Barney Caston, St. Francisville; three sisters,
Mrs. Sarah Coxe, Denham Springs, Mrs. Ella Rogers, Pine Grove and Mrs. Laura
Underwood, Watson, and one brother, Richard O. Curtis, Watson, 17 grandchildren;
and 29 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Eden Baptist Church. Pallbearers
will be Jerry Smith, Gerald Benton, Garland Watson, Marvin Curtis, W. B. Curtis
and J. B. Cupit. He was buried in Jun 1959 in Amite Baptist Church Cemetery,
Watson, Livingston Parish, LA. |
