    To wife Sarah Mayfield all land and movable estate during life.  One shilling each to sons: Robert Mayfield, Abraham Mayfield, John Mayfield and Isaac Mayfield.  To son Jacob Mayfield all land at decease of wife.  One shilling each to daughters: Catherine Gregory, Jane Graves, Anne Conneley.

Will of James Graves, Essex county Virginia

 

In the name of God Amen  I James Graves of perfect sense and memory thanks be to the Almighty God who gave it me <sic> hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ to receive the same at the last day to enjoy eternal bless.  I reccomend by bodey to be buryed in desent and Christian manner according to the discretion of my Executor hereafter named.

 

Item I give & bequeath unto my loving wife Jean Graves all my real & personal estate to her & her heirs for ever and I do sonstitute and appoint my loving wife Jean Graves my whole and sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament revoking and dissannuling all other wills & Testaments herefore by me made as Witness my hand this 10th day of January 1724.

At a court held for Essex county of Tuesday the 20th day of April 1725 the above Last Will and Testament of James Graves deced was presented in court by Jane Graves his Executris who made oath & was also proved by the oaths of John Monday <sic> and Hannah Graves the witnesses thereto & submitted to record.

Will of John Graves, Essex county Virginia

 

    In the name of God Amen I John Graves of the County of Essex & parish of St. Anne am sick & weak of body but of sound pfect sence & memory thanks be to God for it knowing tha tit is appointed once for all me to dye I do comit my body to the Earth & my sold to God that gave and after by Debts & Legacies are paid I give my Estate as followeth:

    I give unto my well beloved wife Hannah Graves my plantation where I now live dureing her life provided she does not marry againe but if she does marry again it is my will that the land at her marriage shall go to my son James Graves and his heirs Lawfully begotten of his own body but if my son James due without having any child of his own the it is my desire that ye Land shall go to my son Benjamin Graves & his heirs for ever.

    I further give to my Daughter Martha Graves one Cow & Calf to be paid at the day of marriage.  I further give to my Daughter Ann Graves one Cow & Calf to be paid the day of marriage.  I further give to my daughter Jane Graves one Cow & Calf to be paid at the day of marriage & as ye rest of my personel estate I give it to my loving wife Hannah Graves, during her natural Life and at her decease it is my desire that my personel estate that I give to my wife for Life that it shall be equally divided amongst all my Children at her decease.

    I further Constitue & appoint my well beloved wife hole & sold Exectrix of this my last Will & Testament revoking and disannuling all other wills and Testaments heretobore <sic> by me made.
