Coffey Cousins' Clearinghouse

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. The Coffey Cousins' Clearinghouse newsletter was the idea of Leonard N. Coffey (1930-1989).  Leonard published approximately 10 years of newsletters before organizing the first Coffey Cousins' Convention, the purpose of which was to bring together his subscribers at one common place. After Leonard passed away in 1989, the Leonard Coffey family gave the newsletter to Bonnie Culley.  She continues to edit and publish the newsletter on a quarterly basis.
  2. Subscriptions to the newsletter are $10 per year. Back issues of the newsletter are available at a cost of $1/each for issues 1 through 21, and $2/each for issues 22 forward.
  3. You do not have to be a subscriber to the  Coffey Cousins' newsletter to submit queries to this site, or to the newsletter. Neither do you have to be a subscriber to attend the "convention."  All Coffey researchers are welcome and encouraged to attend.
  4. There are no fees for research help that Coffey Cousins' provides.
  5. Approximately 300 copies of the newsletter are printed quarterly, with approximately 30 going to libraries.  Among those are the Library of Congress, DAR Library, Dallas Public Library, Missouri Historical Society and several libraries in Virginia. To subscribe to the newsletter, purchase back issues, or to submit a query write to Bonnie Culley, 4012 Cambridge Circle, Jefferson City, MO 65109.  Bonnie is the owner and publisher of the newsletter.
  6. An index to all of the newsletters has been completed, and is maintained by Coffey Cousin, Reams Goodlow. The index can be viewed by clicking on the Newsletter Index icon near the top of the Coffey Cousins' webpage. This is a very large file, and you should let it completely load before attempting to search. Use your browser's "find" feature to search the index. You can also search the entire website by using the search feature at the bottom of the Coffey Cousin' webpage (hint: do not search for Coffee or Coffey!). The numbers following an entry (e.g., 53-12) is Vol. 53, Page 12. Contact Reams for additional information on the index.
  7. Coffey Cousins' meet in a 3-day "reunion" each year at the end of April, beginning of May. These conventions are a social gatherings of old friends who look forward to meeting and helping new "cousins." There is ample opportunity at the "reunion" for research using the growing Coffee/Coffey reference library that Bonnie maintains.
  8. Coffey Cousins' is not for profit. We do not have by-laws, a constitution, or any other similar documents. We do have a "president" who presides over the annual meeting, and a "secretary" who records the minutes. We do not collect dues, but do raise "seed money" to help with expenses in preparing for the following year's "convention." That "seed money" is raised by selling raffle tickets for various prizes donated by those who attend the "reunion.".
